A good point, Patrick. Slaughtering a cow, deer, dove, chicken, or any animal is nasty work. To answer your question, I have obtained my meat the old fashioned way on several occasions. However, the animal was not raised in such unhealthy environments, and I make an effort not to contaminate the meat. Not so much can be said for the industrial slaughter houses. Maybe I am reading way too much into it, and I can't say that even with all of my ranting about this that I eat only grass fed animals. I buy 99% of my meat at Costco or Kroger and enjoy every minute of eating it.

All in all, the way we get our meat has always been nasty. Ever slaughtered a cow the old fashioned way? Shoot a grain fed steer in the head, string it from a sturdy tree, and get to work. Pretty nasty stuff. I'll take the pretty plastic wrap and styrofoam trays. We've had cows as long as I can remember, helped slaughtered a few myself. Give me the Kroger variety any day. Just give me the protein.
