Question of the day: What goes on in your head right before, and during an attempt at a heavy lift? Do you try to think certain thoughts, or do you have a mantra you say to yourself?
Don’t do Drugs
My vote on yesterday’s WOD since it was on April 1st, “April Fool’s”….
Great lift Will! This is a nice sequence and shows the payoff when quality technique and form you have worked so hard for are put to use. Awesome job!
On the QOD: Russell mentioned something the other day that Louie Simmons states about, I’m paraphrasing, clearing your mind of all distractions right before a lift. I put this into practice on the split jerks and it paid off huge for me.

I added wrong this morning and wrote 401 on the board. PR by 21
14-13-7-8-7-5-5-6 = 65
13-10-10-8-8-6-6-6 = 67
12-12-12-12-11-11-11-12 = 93
12-14-14-15-16-15-15-16 = 117
TOTAL: 342 PR by 18
How about we name it after one of our girls? “Kerri” has a nice ring to it.
Ha ha…The CF HSV ‘Girls’….now there’s an idea!
Rest Day for me today. Hate to miss this one, but I can’t do pullups now anyway.
71-61-88-93 = 313
left shoulder is sore and weak right now. Tweaked it over the past few days doing something.
311
Down by a little from the last time I did this one. Not sure why, but my pullups are probably the culprit.
AS RX’D!
19 + 71 + 78 + 101 = 269 PR since this is the first time rx’d. There were multiple PU attempts that didn’t make it over the bar, but at least I got my chin over 19 times. Woo hoo! Sit-ups and squats about the same as last Tabata but push-ups were up by about 20.
100+88+85+130=403
Good day overall, paced way to much at pushups and situps. This weather is getting better and better, can’t wait for the 90+ degree days!
Hate I missed this wod. I got caught up at work again today… third day this week.
I was sitting in a meeting… an important one for me… and I don’t remember a word that was said. I was thinking about todays wod and that I needed to get the hell out of there so I could work on my callouses. Too late. These bastards don’t understand that I have important stuff to do at 11:30. This working for a living thing sucks.
QOD:
When I’m about to attempt a heavy lift I try to put myself in the middle of the ring. A real ring facing a real fighter… not like some of this wannabe bullshit that goes on around here. Anyway… sometimes you’ll see me bouncing… that’s where I’m at. At that moment I’m standing there in the middle of the cage… heart pumping, adrenaline flowing… evil is about to erupt out of me. I got Hiroshima and Nagasaki hanging on the end of my wrists and they’re about blow some shit up. I don’t yell… I don’t smack myself. I sit quiet… waiting… knowing that I’m about to blot out this fools ability to eat solid food… then I step up… ding, ding ya’ll.
Anyway… that works for me sometimes. Sometimes it works and I do something impressive, but sometimes… I snap out of my trance really quickly and realize that what I just picked up is really fucking heavy and it’s not going anywhere but back on the floor.
I cuss too much.
Me also. Working on it.
93+97+112+128= 430 PR
ROM on the push-ups was a little questionable towards the end
50+74+95+122 = 341
Need to work on pullup endurance, because Rounds 1+2=22, but rounds 6-8=28
I was fairly consistent across rounds for the other three movements.
I recorded this last time at 178… either a mistake, or a huge improvement!
62-68-102-115 = 347(pr by 15).
Squats still kill me.
Tracey taught me the technique to rock pushups (after the workout, unfortunately!) so I look forward to another PR next time!
46(jpu)+56+63+42=207.
Great job of motivation the last couple days from Josh and Jake during the WODs. Came close to puking today, which is awesome, lol. Squat form is improving, just gotta get the speed up!
Also…can anyone tell me how I add a picture on here next to my name? lol
Bronsonnnnnnn, you’re here!! Good Work!! Way to Go!
46 + 64 + 88 + 105 = 303
426 which is a 2 rep PR! (I’ll take it) Slacked on the PU’s compared to last time but picked up the pace on the squats to make up for it. Pushups and Situps basically the same as last time.
The biggest thing is I did not get the “im gonna puke feeling” at all….WOOT! Normally after Tabata anything I just want to lay down in a pile of my own vomit. Really fun class also today. There is definitely a benefit to suffering through a WOD with friends than trying to do it yourself.
QOD – For max efforts I absolutely believe that most of the lift is more mental than muscular. I have a weird ritual I go through before my lifts. I’m sure yall have seen it. Typically pace around in circles telling myself I’m about to pick this up and set a new PR. I eventually transition mentally from just hearing myself say “your gonna do this” to “believing I’m about to do this”. Once I fully convince myself I’m about to get this lift….failure is very rare….but the caveat is also that it is pretty rare that I fully believe that I’m about to do it. If a shred of doubt creeps in with the bar in my hands then I know from that point it is a failed lift….and it usually is.
My PEFECT scenario is walk in circles convincing myself, my prelift stretch thing (muscular que that I’m about to make yall work), tunnel vision to the bar (don’t hear sounds), fully believing that I’m about to hit this. During the rare PERFECT scenario I can actually feel the adrenalin rush….
Very addicting!!!

Tabata Something’s Missing WOD- (no pull up bar in the hotel ‘fitness’ room
So, my push ups were fresh instead of after Tabata pull-ups….
Push ups-92
Sit ups (used a double rolled up towel as my AbMat)-99
Squats-106
Total-297
Maybe I can make the pull ups on Sunday or something…
