Well, the weekend has finally come to a close and all in all it was such a great experience! The first WOD of the day was the snatch ladder. In the team competition, we watched some unbelievable lifts, including Jessica Denney from CrossFit Atlanta who squat snatched 175# and some giant who looked like he was from a different planet because he was SO huge snatch 285#!! And the best part was both of their form was impeccable! The individuals had to do 20 double unders before each attempt, and had just 50 seconds to do it in. The women were impressive including Talayna Fortunado who won the event with a 160# snatch and Sarabeth Phillips who at only 120 pounds managed to snatch 150#! in the men’s division, there were many impressive lifters, including one of our very own!!! After sticking lifts at 155, 165, 175, 185, 195, 205, 215, AND 225, PLUS completing a total of 160 double unders, Jake set a new PR with a snatch of 235pounds!!! It was awesome! With that lift Jake managed to tie for 8th in WOD5 and 22nd overall!
The second half of the day consisted of the top 12 teams and the top 18 men and women suffering through WOD6 to try and secure a trip to the Games. Given the scoring for WODs 1-5, the top 3 teams were already assured a spot at the games regardless of the results of WOD6. However, it was still a great event, and CrossFit Impulse’s team managed to secure 8th place overall! The individual spots weren’t secure before the event, but the top 3 men and the top 3 women heading into the event earned good enough scores to remain at the top and earn a spot to the games.
After the competition was over, Jake, Dennis, Tracey, and myself ate ourselves sick at the Cheesecake Factory and got in bed before 8pm! Not together of course! (Tracey wanted me to add that 🙂 )
Honestly, I truly wish this competition had been close enough that many of our members could have attended. It was inspiring, enlightening, and entertaining for sure, but most of all there is just nothing like cheering and screaming for a friend when they are out there doing what they do best, and seeing all their hard work pay off! We couldn’t have been prouder of Jake this weekend, not only for what he accomplished on the floor, but for the class and attitude he carried himself with the entire time. Yay Jake!!! 🙂

Thanks guys! I can’t begin to express my gratitude to everyone for all the support. As soon as I get a chance to sit down and get a write up of everything I’ll make a post regional post. Thanks again!

Just wanted to add my congratulations to Jake. Two top-10 event finishes and a big jump in the overall standings from last year is just super impressive. If you were a footballer, at your age you’d be likely heading into your rookie campaign, with your best years still ahead of you. So in my mind there’s no doubt you’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the future of the South East Region.

Good job this morning! Coaching 1130 was a blast. Don’t know about you, but I got nothing but blank stares when I said we were doing “Fran-Mile-Fran” instead of the chipper, I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t said I was kidding when I did I was about to get punched.

Looking forward to 0600 short-shorts Fridays this summer!
