    Back Squat 1-1-1-1-1-1-1

    235-245-255-265-275(pr)-285(pr)-295(x)

    Then aprox. 3 hrs later, 5 rounds of 20 burpees for time. Rest as needed between rounds.

    47sec-42sec-43sec-43sec-47sec

    Not sure why the fastest ones were in the middle.

    Had an enjoyable globo gym moment at Pagano while doing the back squats. Asked a guy to spot me on the 285 & 295 attempt because they only have metal plates. After the successful 285, he told me that he was scared to do squats because he didn’t want to get hurt (cue the Rippetoe quotes). He then asked how he should spot me. This made me unsure if I should attempt 295, but I went ahead with it. After I got stuck in the bottom of the squat, my spotter yelled “oh shit” and didn’t move. After I was able to squat deep enough to safely set the weight down on the lowest part of the rack, I explained to my new friend that this is why we train full ROM. Even though I missed the lift, the fact that I was comfortable enough to squat low enough to set the weight down made me happy.

      This is awesome. But WTF were you thinking? You got a solid PR at 275, got greedy, went for 285 and got another PR. You just asked your body to squat 20lb heavier than ever before…why try 295?
      These are solid advanced novice to intermediate squat weights, PRs aren’t going to happen every time you squat. Enjoy the moment when they do.
      I’m just sayin’…

      Patrick,

      I do have to admit that I have yet to break myself of this habit. I tend to push for a little more than I should sometimes on 1rm days. However, 275 felt really good, and I was confident that 285 would happen. Should I have attempted 295? Maybe not, but I felt like the strength was there to continue up in weight. If one is feeling good at the time, and is not risking injury (which I did not feel that I was) then why not push yourself a little further?

    Sorry we missed the farewell this evening, but Dena got sick this afternoon and I’m felt sure y’all didn’t want the germs! Travel safe, Rich.

    Bad bad bad bad bad bad weekend for zone…Friday night date night wasn’t too bad…except for dessert and martinis! (if I’m going to blow it, chocolate mousse cake at Ruth’s Chris is a pretty good thing to blow it on!!)

    Last night was awful: 2 social functions, no supper before we left, so it was pretty much a lost cause. Didn’t really eat a lot at either function, but none of it was remotely zone, & a couple glasses of wine didn’t help.

    Back on the wagon today…
