Lower back still hurts so I did the mainsite WOD at the playground. Could not kip well (maybe because of my back?) and only did 6 rounds and 6 pullups.
I would like to note that I have gotten waaaay to accustomed to using the “special, squishy, tennis grip” on our cage. Doing pullups on a “real” bar without special padding is about 10xs harder. I will no longer allow myself the luxury of the squishy bar. I think it makes it too easy and you don’t strengthen your hands/grip strength. Plus, there is no issue of slipping like you do on a metal bar. And, if you ever want to compete, they most likely won’t have tennis grips at the Games 🙂

Kevin, iIn your case, I am sure you are plenty strong enough to use the squishy grip without hurting your performance…I am mostly speaking for those of us who can only do 10-15 pullups without taking a break 🙂 Keep on abusing it! 🙂

As most know, I’m ALL FOR the tennis racket (squishy) tape, since I’m the one who puts it up there! For a Game situation, tape (on my hands) or gymnastic-like grips (aka Hanpons) would be my choice. But for regular, weekly training, the tape keeps my hands in good condition, without as many calluses and rips (at least until the tape gets worn out so much that it does more damage than good!). i just prefer to be able to work out as consistently as possible, and rips can impede that, so I do what I need to do to avoid them. But, seeing that Crossfit is for all-around training, maybe i’ll mix it up from time to time to avoid stagnancy and complacency… Maybe. 🙂

I do like the new hardcore atmosphere of the temp gym, but… no shower before going back to the office is going to kill my sparkly repertoire. Thank God I’m not one of those guys that smells like buffalo taint when I sweat.

James, pull up bar is up and functional. It’s a beauty. Maybe Karen will bring the squishy grips. Lots of need toys arrived today, it was like a CrossFit christmas.

Clint with your incredible flexibility all you need to do is sniff hard you know the smell. I am just glad you followed directions and made it to the correct gym for the workout.
5 Rounds + 250m 1st round @ 35#, pooned out to 30#. I should have started @ 30#. I HATE starting a WOD with heavier weight and then spending more time resting between reps than actually doing the WOD.

I agree with Karen that changing it up is the key. Squishy grip it sometimes but make sure to do some workouts without so you get accustomed to the bar. I may do the workout again today with the grip and see how much it helps…
4 rounds + 167 meters @ 30#. The new gym is hot. This workout sucked. Ouch. Took a couple of hours and lots of Gatorade and water to recover.
