I miss Katherine. Remember that old school Matrix whiteboard with Kevin and Mandee as the best attenders and Jimmy’s insane 409 FGB score. Tempus fugit.

The article is one of those bitter sweet types. It’s good to see crossfit being recognized, but when marketing dollars come in sometimes integrity is challenged and defeated and the sport takes a hit for it. I feel like the integrity of the crossfit community is much stronger than other sports and will make it through, but the trials and obstacles to maintain that community will be interesting to watch.

I watched the advertising dollars come into snowboarding when I lived in Colorado and within 5 years you had the likes of Terje Hakonsen and Shaun Palmer rising and making a living out of their skills. You had college age guys producing pants, jackets, boots, boards, gloves and other gear related to the sport out of warehouses in Boulder, Co. Everyone had $$ in their eyes and it was a fun time. Free gear, free rides, big parties…

It’s an awesome opportunity for athletes to find sponsorship and resources to make a lifestyle out of their sport but the bastardization by the industry is sometime relentless. Hopefully crossfit can maintain the brand and keep control so 10-20 years down the road another Burton or Dakine will emerge rather than a North Face who sold out long ago to Vanity Fair.

Today’s WOD: 15 reps. Held 16 through 4 rounds. PR by 4 reps from the last Tabata Something Else and 7 or 8 reps over my intro class Tabata Squats.

As I watched the games this past weekend I wondered what it would be like on ESPN with constant commercial breaks. I’m sure it’ll work out, but the virtually commercial free format wasn’t too bad. It will be interesting to see how things change when the games have to fit into ESPN or whoever’s mold. I’d be surprised if the games weren’t picked up by someone next year.

    14. Up from 12 the last time we did a Tabata counting the lowest score

  8. dunnbball says:

    12. Up from 10 during the 4th of July WOD, but then again, that was after Tabata Deadlifts!

  9. Naveen says:

did tabata squats after shoulder was not cooperating on a jerk workout at San Francisco CrossFit: 8×15. rested/stretched for a while, then did it again: 8×16. then rested again and did 10x100m all-out sprints on the minute.
