Question of the day: When did you first hear about CrossFit and who did you hear about it from? Did you believe them?

Did this at home this morning

    1 mile warmup

    8 x 400m w/ 90 seconds rest

I had the timer on my phone set to ring every 30 seconds. All runs were under 1:30 – last 3 were barely under.

Definitely recommend a good warmup to all those competing. Don’t go hard with cold legs and pull a groin or hammy.

will us afternoon folks get to run in the snow…or row? πŸ™‚

The movie 300 was where I first heard of this workout methodology. I was directed at first to gym jones, but then a friend who was trying out crossfit at the matrix told me about it and I rushed over. I was completely hooked after the first workout.

  4. Daniel says:

1 hour of gymnastics training. Going to follow it up with some rowing and bodyweight exerises.

I learned about Crossfit from my brother. I believed him. Looking back, my first few workouts would be hilarious to go back and watch. My second workout I did Fran with 75lbs. It took me 17:00. I could barely do any thrusters. Too funny.

I learned about CrossFit from one of my best college friends. We were big into body building back at Auburn. Full on bodybuilding….the “look at the horseshoe” and “feel the burn” type. We graduated school, got jobs, and lost touch. I got depressed, gained weight, smoked and drank to much and generally looked and felt like s#@t. Luckily a band was playing in Birmingham (oh yeah…I also had an unhealth addiction to live music). He invited me over for dinner and was “shocked” about how much I had changed. Since his career is fitness industry (He owned the Fitness Together Franchises for the South) he learned about CrossFit. Started talking it up and raving about how fast he got back into shape. At first I thought it was just more fitness industry smoke and mirrors and didn’t really believe him. Did a few WODS. Got completely smoked!….and was instantly hooked.

I have never been in better shape or healthier. (I had completely given up on ever being in shape again).

Me and Forrest are still competing with eachother and CF has made us much closer friends than we ever were before.

He just opened Iron Tribe Fitness in Homewood. It is a full on competitive CrossFit gym. CFHSV’s new competition for producing great athletes. Check out their site. http://www.irontribefitness.com

He will also be competing this weekend and is going to do very well if not win the whole thing.

    1000m row-4:00
    Chillin in prep for Sectionals….Yikes!

  9. Brad says:

I am with kerri took peoples advise and didnt workout today because of sectionals.

I learned about crossfit from Wil blankinship. He used to workout doing crossfit in another gym we both went to. I used to give him hell about what he was doing. He told me to try it for two weeks and I would never go back to what i was doing. He was right. Kinda felt bad when Kevin found me and told me about crossfit huntsville. I came straight to the matrix and started and forgot to tell Wil about it. It all worked out though he found crossfithuntsville without my help. Sorry Wil

  10. Brad says:

And for some reason I spelled your name with one L everytime in that post. Sorry again

Brad….how many more days?? That little bundle of joy gonna hold out through the weekend or will he be here before?

rowing, 22:21, all between 85 & 90 seconds…wasn’t until Josh started helping the person next to me that i realized i come too far in with the legs & lose power…can definitely do better!

My wife and Katherine became friends when they taught together at Monrovia, so we learned about crossfit once we got to know Russell.

Still have to be careful as I learn technique and continue to strengthen, but I can’t tell you how happy I am with the program and how great it is!

  12. Emily D. says:

Rowed 25:14 total….uhhh….my butt cramped up by the 2nd interval so the rest were tough.

Big thanks to Josh for helping me row more efficiently….will take some getting used to but definitely helps!

Cole is a rowing machine……I hate rowing near him…I feel SOOOOOOO slow!

I heard about Crossfit when I was living in Florida….my old neighbor did it and after moving back up here and getting bored with the normal gym routine I decided to look around for a place around here and found CFHSV. I was addicted after my intro class (that almost made me throw up) πŸ™‚
