Today was not ideal PR conditions, but for me today wasn’t about a new PR. Today was a blast. There’s something about running through mud, jumping over downed tree limbs and romping through ankle deep puddles that really resonates in me, like reconnecting a child-like freedom and joy, if only for about 20 minutes.

For those of you who stayed and completed CFHSV’s first annual 5K steeplechase this morning, great job!

The difference between you and me is that if you were a slow lumbering animal such as myself, you could have enjoyed it for about 30 minutes rather than 20.

    • Karen says:

Yeah. That sounds like a sprained ankle waiting to happen to me! Sorry, but I have tricky ankles (my right one can dislocate with a solid muscle cramp). Russell always wonders why I don’t run the CC course. I’d rather run on pavement and be able to workout the next day, then twist my ankle on a tree root or in a puddle and be out for weeks!

Plus, it is hard for me to drive 40 minutes round trip to run, when all I have to do is open the front door and go!

  2. Russell says:

there are some puddles you just can’t avoid. Training PR – 1:45

  3. Kerri says:

    Happy Birthday Lesha!!!

    • LeshaS says:

      Thanks, Kerri!

Question: Why is Aaron looking at Mandee’s butt like that in the picture?

    • klowe says:

I think Aaron’s look is more of “why are my legs not working” following the GHD torture session…..or he could just be scoping out Mandee’s butt

    • Aaron says:

Socks, people, the socks. I’m. checking. out. the. socks.

lol! Kevin nailed it. If you could only see the expression on my face. I don’t think anyone would want an ugly face like that being made when your bum is being checked out.

I started today thinking about a PR on the 5k. However, about 1/3 of the way through I realized, like Aaron, how much fun I was having. I knew I wasn’t going to PR, but I was having a blast either way.

  5. Justin says:

My lower back kept me from enjoying it all that much. Definitely better than rowing, but pretty far from what I would call fun.

  6. Mandee Miller says:

Russell, I am completely humiliated by this picture. Thanks so much. And Lesha, my best crossfit friend, thanks for commenting on it.
38 something. Almost as bad as this picture.

  7. Jimmy says:

not sure whats going on but apparently im turning into a runner
first mile 6:14, PR by over a minute
then ran another half mile, walked a tenth and finished the two miles in 13:45, PR by 2:31
had to stop i’ve been running pose and my calves hurt so much i can barely walk, i can’t wait for them to get better i want to see what kind of times i can get with healthy legs

  8. Jake Naumcheff says:

    PR by 1:37

I have absolutely no clue how I hit a PR today considering the conditions but I have to agreee with Aaron I had an awesome time this morning. I guess this just proves I really have no idea how to pace myself when I run.

  9. 26:06 – 14 second better than PR (Jingle Bell run)

  10. Craig Herr says:

Mandee I have several comments on the pic but I will hold them because your my buddy.

25:48 (4:30 off pr) a slow sloppy run but it was kind of fun I must admit. By the way from what I can tell if you ran today you beat Josh as he is allergic to running of any kind.

    • joshg says:

Craig, I am working on a concept of taking the specializing in not specializing to the extreme. I am actually de-specializing to the point I just do nothing. So far it has worked well, I will keep you updated.

  11. Daniel says:

    23:52. Not a pr.

  12. Emily D. says:

5K row – 25:16 blech….not what I wanted but not bad considering I only had an hour and a half worth of sleep last night. Super windy nights make living on a boat fun 🙂

I rowed the 5K for the first time about 2 months ago and it was 28:58 so at least I am improving!

  13. Kerri says:

21:44 rowed the 5K…First time ever rowing it…it wasn’t fun, but it was about ten minutes faster than my 5K PR. So,ten minutes less of any kind of suffering, is an accomplishment by me!! I do have to say, running in the mud would’ve been fun for me, only if I enjoyed the running part!!

  14. Patrick says:

    Row 1000m
    Back Squat 3×5: 255-255-255
    Bench Press 3×5: 195-195-195

255# was my 1RM Back Squat when I started this strength training madness.
