Team workout!

With a 10 minute running timer:
Athlete 1 completes 50 double-unders, while Athlete 2 completes as many overhead squats as possible with 135 pounds. As soon as Athlete 1 is finished, switch and repeat.

Post team, loads, and total number of overhead squats to comments.

Question of the day:

How do you feel about back-to-back rowing workouts? Is this motivating or discouraging? What do you get out of programming like this?

Back to back, is a EVIL little plan. I used many bad words looking at yesterdays wod. All in all I needed these WOD’s and probabally even began to understand rowing slightly better. MOTIVATING. I will not die rowing a 2K, then 1K, then 500M 🙂

So when I got back in my car yesterday, I saw that my bottle of water was sitting there… the bottle of water that I THOUGHT I drank during the workout…. so I am SO SORRY to whoever’s water I took yesterday – I feel terrible!! I know you needed it during that sweatfest. It was the exact same brand and I just wasn’t thinking ;(

    Teamed with Jada
    41 reps; A @ 125 for 7 reps, next round dropped to 115 for 9 reps; J @ 95 for 25 reps

In hindsight, I should have worked at 95 the entire workout which would have allowed me to work on starting each OHS with a snatch and I could have gotten more reps. Spent to much time push pressing overhead, then moving my hands wide enough for a proper position for the OHS.

Regarding the QOD, I found it motivating. Rowing is a bitch. Period. It hurts and is even worse when you technically suck at it, which is my case. My technique is awful and I think repetition is the key to improving a weakness, as long as the repeated movement is being performed correctly. I picked something up during Tuesday’s WOD and I think I would have improved or gained a little bit more knowledge if I would have been able to go Monday. These last 2 WODs seemed to be programmed to tax those larger muscles I would normally use to sub-consciously “cheat” where I’m technically weak. I’ve noticed this happens to me often during the WODs where we are doing an Olympic lift with another movement, say handstand pushups. At first I’m using my larger muscles, i.e., shoulders, to move the weight but after a couple rounds, they’re toasted and it forces me to use proper technique and form which results in me lifting correctly which then results in what feels like the movement becoming easier. Overall, even though I didn’t get to participate I found the B2B rowing WODs motivating. That said, anymore than 2 days of rowing and I think it would have been discouraging.

If anyone has seen my double unders, please return them to me!

AMRAP (as there was an odd number of people in class) 10 minutes:
    50 DU, 10 OHS @ 45lbs

3 rounds. 3 pathetic rounds. Sorry for the cursing in class. First round in 2 minutes. Slippery slope from there. I may have lost count on the rounds but I only remember going to the bar 3 times so that’s all that counts.

On the brighter side, 10 muscle ups after class. Didn’t time them but less than 10 minutes and only 1 miss.

  9. Patrick says:

Well, today I got to do a scaled version of the skills/technique stuff with the class then got to go sit on the group W bench to do a solo gimp WOD.

    AMRAP in 10 min of:
15 PVC OHS (to med ball depth marker)
Farmers Walk with 2 pood KBs around the line of squat racks
(probably 40 yds give or take)

    6 rounds even

Sounded incredibly easy going in, but sucked more than expected.

Of course, Dr Miller (who I’ve been trying to avoid) caught me putting away the KBs and reminded me that I’m either tough or incredibly stupid for CrossFitting 8 days post-arthroscopy. I kinda like the tough idea, but know that stupid is reality.

    • Patrick says:

QOD: Motivating… it’s something I can actually do. Plus, I’ve sub’d row for run so many times over the past year, this just feels normal for me.
